He's gonna be 10mo !

Physical ~ cross crawl, pull to stand, cruise, walk with assistance, use his pincer grip to pick up smaller bits of food and he's also slowly figuring out how to feed himself those same small bits of food that get bunched in his fist after picking them up. He's still excessively mouthing everything he can get his hands on but at least he's starting to be willing to explore and learn via other methods.

Emotional ~ look for and call me maaaaa! (he's been looking for me for everything recently, makes me feel very wanted unlike before, heehee), pointedly ignoring us after being scolded, feel sad and cry when I make crying sounds after he has unintentionally injured me, laugh w/o prompting from us when he has done something he finds amusing and of course, express happiness when he has accomplished something (new).

Language ~ apart from calling me ma when he is looking for me to carry him especially when it's time to sleep, he understands when we ask him where his milk-milk (tried teaching him to use the baby sign for it but so far he has resolutely refused to do the action and will instead start his special milk-milk whine) is by looking at then either putting his mouth on my breast or touching it with his hand, he also clearly understands the meaning of no and can stop when we tell him no, not to touch or do something, however that doesn't necessarily mean he won't try his luck, he also knows the 4 cats by their names and will look for them when we ask him where 'Name of cat is'.

Eating and drinking ~ the occasional times when he drinks ebm he still only seems to be able to drink 120ml, if not he will normally nurse 5-6x daily, he eats a full child-size bowl of porridge (or occasionally pasta and bottled baby food) 2x a day and in between he has yogurt, fruits, cheese, teething biscuits or bite-sized snacks.

I recently bought a Severin yogurt maker (S$58 from Tangs) as I was unable to find many types of full fat yogurt on the shelves for Jordan. I was unsuccessful the very first try, the milk never fermented and I suspect the Yogi House brand of powdered yogurt starter (S$30) I bought from Vitakids was the culprit for that failed attempt. While doing online searches for how to make a great homemade yogurt, I read that Fage Total Greek yogurt was a really yummy and good yogurt to use as a starter so I was really happy when I saw it being featured in thursday's copy of the Straits Times Urban as I never saw it previously while looking for full fat yogurt in the supermarket. So I tried once again on Friday night using Fage as a starter and was happy to see the milk changing to yogurt. I didn't want it to be too sour and tarty so I stopped the process after 7 hours and the yogurt has turned out really unique with a texture akin to tao huay (soya beancurd) and not sour at all like the usual yogurt available. Since I know it works, I'll be using Horizons organic whole (full fat) milk and Fage from now on for Jordan's yogurt. It's really quite exciting to be doing something so normal and motherly, hahaha!

Updates

7.4.08
Finished up Jordan's 5-7th month LOs, so am right on track for those pages. Also attended a workshop at MWL called 'Beautiful Mess 4' and did 2 LOs in class and 1 bonus LO at home.

Jordan is of course growing and attempting new things everyday. His bottom 2 teeth erupted together sometime in the 1st two weeks of March. He started being able to sit up firmly by himself sometime before that and now he can even push himself up to a sitting position from his tummy or back. He can combat crawl all over the place. He's also been using us and our clothes to pull himself to a standing position.

His repertoire of babbling is increasing and it's really amusing to hear him talking to himself, the things around him, us or even my breast when I nurse him. He's such a fun little guy and laughs even more easily now, sometimes at nothing at all (at least that's what it seems like to me)! Of course he also drives me crazy when he fights sleep at bedtime (and only at bedtime!!!) or he keeps crying and whining for attention.

He can now sleep on his back without startling or waking himself up like he used to when his startle reflex was extra strong. He has started feeling hefty again since he started on home cooked porridge or pasta and a wider variety of solids like yogurt with freshly scraped fruits, pieces of cheese sticks, teething biscuits and occasionally small pieces of bread. He'll be going for his 9 month check up on the 21st so I will know for certain how much weight he has put on cos we all can certainly see and feel it on him!

POS

25.3.08
Haven't had any inclination to post but yet another incident happened on Monday that has prompted me to write about this sad state of affairs in SG. Ever since Jordan was born 8 months ago, I've unfortunately encountered pathetic excuses for males 3 times.

The very first time was when Jordan was much younger and we were on our way back from IMM with my mum. She was walking in front of me carrying Jordan so I walked slower behind her. The bus was relatively empty and yet this person behind me kept stepping on the back of my slipper; the 1st 2 times I brushed it off as an accident but the last time I stopped and turned around to stare at the person behind me. Since we've already established the type of male he is, he just stared back at me like it was my fault. So I sat down while he sat down somewhere behind and his useless girlfriend asked him what was wrong with me, whereby he proceeded to say in a loud voice that I was walking too slowly and yet I had the audacity to turn around and stare at him. I was really pissed by this time, so I stood up turned around and proceeded to shout at him; #1 my mum was walking in front of me holding the baby, does he expect me to rush and push her while she is holding the baby?!, #2 The bus is so empty, wtf is he rushing and stepping on people without apologising for?!, #3 Doesn't he have any manners and is he so useless that he has to rush to get a seat?! He obviously didn't like being told off by a mere female, so he tried to shout back saying that it's not my bus and I shouldn't be shouting but got silenced by my mum telling him it wasn't his bus either so he should just STFU himself. He tried to stare at us when he got off the bus but my mum and I just stared him down till he looked away, useless pathetic POS (piece of shit) he is. I guess he thought he could bully 2 lone females but he certainly picked on the wrong females to mess with!

The second incident was much less dramatic. The bus we wanted to take stopped behind another bus at the bus stop so we had to walk to it. I was carrying Jordan while my mum walked behind me, I was not sure if the bus was going to move forward so was rather hesitant in walking forward. This useless pathetic POS went on to mutter to himself, "Stupid pregnant woman". I guess he wasn't happy about the fact that I hesitated, but why is he in such a rush anyways?!

This recent incident occurred at King Albert Park. My husband had pushed Jordan ahead in the pram and a lady with a pram had moved aside to let him pass. So I was stuck in the middle of the slope path trying to squeeze myself aside to let her pass when a POS comes up behind us and tries to squeeze his way past the pram and me! I proceeded to tell him off in no uncertain terms to let the lady go first, what was his rush and problem, didn't his mother teach him any manners! The poor lady was carrying grocery bags, pushing the pram and apologizing and instead of helping, he does such an inconsiderate act.

I really really despise all these so-called males and their total lack of decency, manners, consideration and civic mindedness. Each time these incidents occur, I tell Jordan to please please do not ever become like that and if he were to even consider trying, he would certainly get disciplined harshly. We have certainly encountered polite, well mannered, helpful males but there seem to be more POS. First class country, third class people.

Gong Xi Fa Cai~

5.2.08

I did these 2 LOs in the last week of Jan because I had the inspiration (& photos) after attending classes on the 26th and 31st. They are part of the set I am doing for Jordan's first 12 months. And of course, stash of any kind is always a wonderful sight to behold. These are items bought from The Velvet Cat's closing down sale and I just had to take a photo to remember how happy I felt when I saw them all together like this.

Jordan's growing by leaps and bounds and meeting his milestones faster than we can blink. Most important of all he is always healthy and happy with a smile ready for us. It will be our first Chinese New year with him, I hope he doesn't get too frightened during visiting because his stranger anxiety has kicked in for awhile and it's only getting stronger. Here's wishing everyone a prosperous and healthy year of the Rat~

Maid abuses 2mth old

4.2.08
The news on channel 5 at 9.30pm reported that the employers of a maid caught her on a hidden web cam abusing their 2 month old baby in their home. I am appalled and disgusted by the maid's behavior and really hope the baby is fine after getting shaken, thrown, kicked and manhandled by the maid.

6 months and counting.

22.1.08
Always ready with a smile.

Ever since Jordan's last Hep B, DPT and polio vaccination on the 10th, we've both been sick. I think he was already incubating the bug in his body but he didn't have any outward signs which is why we went ahead with his vaccination and that resulted in him falling really ill with the cold and a mild cough straight after the vax. He had so much phlegm and mucus that he had problems breathing and that affected his sleeping. He even vomited a couple of times due to the amount of phlegm stuck in his throat. It was incredibly heart wrenching to see him being that ill but even in that state, he still had a smile for us every single time. Anyway, the brave fella that he is, he didn't cry at the vax and he got 2 injections, 1 on each thigh. He weighed 8.2kg and measured 64cm.

First food: Bellamy's organic brown rice cereal

Since 31st Dec when he rolled over from his back to the front, he quickly progressed to rolling from the front to the back 5 days later, on the 5th. So now he has fun rolling all over and so far he has fallen down once from our bed but luckily he didn't hurt himself as his fall was cushioned by the bolster that was supposed to prevent him from rolling off. We also bought him a walker on the 5th, when the husband finally got his Aussie license converted to a SG one and we rented a car for the weekend, since we were going to start him on solids exactly when he turned 6 mths old and needed somewhere for him to sit while we fed him. He's constantly wanting to pull himself up into a sitting position and sitting by himself with a straighter back without much support. Everything seems quiet on the tooth front for now though.

Insisted on pulling himself up into a sitting position.

On Saturday night, I went down to Ikea to get myself an EMRIK storage unit (SIN$59) to hold all my scrap booking stuff which was OOS when we went to Ikea on the 6th. I'm really happy that I finally got my hands on it and must make an effort to print photos so that I can at least do some LOs. I haven't had time to do anymore LOs but I think that's just an excuse for myself as well since it's really hard for me to come out with a beautiful one, hopefully that will all change after I attend the SDU classes at MWL at the end of Feb.

2 more LOs in December

3.1.08

The husband finally got a break since 23rd Dec from his constant flying around for projects and that means I also have a break from 24/7 with Jordan so I managed to do some pages. I really must scrap more since I have been breaking the bank at MWL in Nov and Dec due to their 4th birthday and then Xmas celebrations/ promotions.
